A National Workshop Held on Animal Rights

The Department of Law held a national workshop which consisted of three sessions concerning animal rights, entitled “The Position of Animal in the Discourse of Rights” on December 4th ,2022 at the UoH Presidency Central Library Hall.

The first session was on “Speciesism and  the Philosophy of  Speciesism” which was presented by lecturer Mr. Dlshad Hamid. Mr. Dlshad mentioned the concept of Speciesism which is a central and bias concept or it stands with favors of those individuals within your species which has  the theological root.

The second session was under the title, “How to Consider Animals as Citizens” it was offered by Dr.Nawzad Jamal. During the session, Mr. Dlshad went back to the history of relationships between human and animal and stated that since the creation/the bringing of their existence, there is a relation between them. He further highlighted that humans should not put animals in danger or cause them harm for the sake of their happiness.

The third session was presented by the lecturer Mr. Dyar ShamsaAldeen on “The Position of Animals in Sharia” in which he mentioned the rights of animals from the perspective of Islam and stated that God has mentioned Animal 27 times in the Holy Quran and Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) talked about animal 32 times in his Hadith. Finally, he displayed several Sharia proofs as a support of his speech.
