1. The workshop started with the speech of the UoH president Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abduallah who pointed out the fact that the government should have plans and strategies to develop and enhance tourism sectors, and evaluate how effective and beneficial the plan will be for the region. She further added “Halabja and Hawraman’s location are a nature’s gift to the people of this region, and have all the characteristics of a tourist place in terms of their geographical and environmental location, as well as shrines of spiritual Sheikhs. The only thing required is more efforts by the government to make this region visible and known in terms of tourism.
Lecturer Mr. Ako Tofiq was one of the speakers and stated that what has been previously done in area of tourism was just usual visits, it means we have neither stayed nor enjoyed the journey. He said “in Halabja Governorate we have all the facilities for a tourist to stay but we are not encouraging or convincing the tourist to stay, government is not the only concerned party to be blamed but we also as the citizen of Halabja are responsible to making an atmosphere for the tourists to stay and spent money and thorough this we could bring income to our city”.
The second speaker was Dr. Askandar Moradi, who explained that Tourism sector becomes important once it brings income or boost economy, becomes the source of the revenue and it directly distributed among people. He further supported what has already been mentioned by Mr. Ako in terms of the region’s richness in tourism industry. With an answer – question session, the workshop ended.
