On July 31st, 2023, a delegation from the Iranian Consulate in Sulaimani paid a visit to the University of Halabja (UoH) with a mission to strengthen bilateral relations.
The delegation, led by Mr. Mahmood Mahmoodian, the Consul General, received a warm welcome from Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the UoH president, along with university counsel members and several academic staff.
During the meeting, Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah emphasized the significance of the existing academic and scientific connections between UoH and Iranian universities. These ties have been nurtured through various means, such as memoranda of understanding, joint workshops, conferences, symposia, and collaborative scholarly papers.
The Iranian consul general, in response, further emphasized that the relations extend beyond the realm of science and academia. Given the geographical proximity of the city to the border, cultural exchange has also played a vital role in strengthening the bonds between the two entities.
One notable proposal discussed during the meeting for the purpose of fostering collaborations was the provision of professors from Iran to join the UoH academic staff. This initiative aims to promote the expansion of Persian language and culture education within the university community.
Both sides expressed their enthusiasm for future cooperation in the fields of academia, science, and culture. The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to continuing and expanding the fruitful partnerships between the University of Halabja and the Iranian Consulate, paving the way for enhanced knowledge sharing and cultural enrichment.
