In the presence of the UoH president Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the University of Halabja hosted an event commemorating Halabja Day featuring distinguished guests such as Mr. Hama Hama Saeed, the Minister of Culture and Youth of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Mr. Azad Tofiq, Governor of Halabja city, Mr. Leila Omar, Mayor of Sulaimani, among others. The event, titled “Halabja: A History of Freedom and a Lifetime of Literature,” took place on November 24, 2023, at the UoH presidency. Initially, the gathering began with a solemn minute of silence in remembrance of the Kurdistan martyrs. Later, Mr. Azad Tofiq then delivered a welcoming speech, providing insights into the history of Halabja. Afterwards, the program continued with the display of documentary photos depicting Halabja, followed by a captivating music and song concert performed by the Halabja Music Group and dance presentations. The audience was presented with several books highlighting the literary, artistic and religious history of Halabja province. In a concluding address, the Governor of Halabja expressed gratitude for the enduring significance of Halabja’s tribes and families in both the present and the past. During an afternoon session, a panel discussion titled “Halabja between Concept and History” was led by Mr. Azad Tofiq, Governor of Halabja. Dr. Saman Mustafa Rashid explored “The Position of Gul Anbar in the Archives of the Ottoman Empire,” while Dr. Saman Salah delved into “Halabja as an Important Political and Religious Center in Kurdish History.” The panel concluded with engaging comments and discussions involving both the audience and panelists.

A delegation from UoH consisting of Asst. Prof. Dr. Rebwar Zainalddin Mohammed , Dean of College of Basic Education, Mr. Hosham Ata Mahmood, Head of Social Science Department, Mr.Hydayet Mohammed Ahmed, Head of English Language Department, and Mr. Aso Ahmed, Head of Arabic Language Department participated in the Workshop and Field Visit in the framework of the WP4 “Teacher and Staff training” at the University of Pavia. It was the fourth activity of the TeachersMOD project which took place from 29th October to 4th November in Pavia, Italy.
The project has been funded with support from the European Union, Erasmus+, KA2 – Capacity-building in the Field of Higher Education, the partners are five Kurdish universities and University of Pavia as a coordinator, besides the University of Granada, University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Duro in Portugal and UNIMED.
The activity lasted for 4 days during which a workshop was conducted and designed around two general macro themes: Gender Studies and Methodology of History. A number of seminars were presented such as: Not the history of women but women in history: finding women in the sources, History as methodology for teaching: how to teach post-colonial Nation-States as well as they had extensive discussions concerning new teaching methodologies, curricula reviewing and learning outcomes revision; by reinforcing the competences of university staff in the Basic Education Colleges in the HEIs from Kurdistan region of Iraq besides, reviewing and evaluating the curricula of the social sciences in general and History in particular at primary schools in KRI.
It is worth mentioning that in the fourth day of the event a seminar on “The Archive project of Halabja Genocide” was presented by Mr. Hoshman Ata. The seminar was about the chemical bombardment of Halabja by former Baath’s regime in Iraq, and its influence on the people and society and introducing it into the study programs of primary education. Then, they had a debate and group discussion on Memory, violence and Genocide in Contemporary history. At the end, they have decided to write a report about this issue and raised it to the Ministry of Education of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

UoH hosted the fourth international conference titled “Kurds and Kurdistan in International Resources and Documents” under the supervision of Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and guided by Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the president of UoH. The conference, coordinated by the Jamal Nabaz Cultural Foundation and sponsored by Kurdsat Media Agency, took place on October 29th and 30th, 2023, in Dr. Mustafa Zalmi Hall.

At the beginning, all attendees observed a minute of silence to honor the pure souls of Kurdistan martyrs. Then, Prof. Dr. Mahabad delivered a welcome speech, followed by a speech from Assist. Prof. Dr. Nariman Abdullah, head of the scientific conference committee.

Fourth, the Researcher Mr. Zana Karak presented a paper entitled, “Olya Chalabi’s Journey in Kurdish Literature.

Third, Dr. Tara Khidir Dashti presented a paper entitled, “Kurds in Islam in the writings of the orienlists Mr. Arshak Poladian, Kurds in Arabic resources, Kurds in Abbasyan Period” as an example.
Later, Dr. Karzan Karim Amin presented the paper entitled, “Kurd Phobia, Depiction of Kurds in British Archival Texts of the Early Twentieth Century”.

The second day of the conference which was run by Dr. Marwan Mazhar Jaff consisted of three panels for the researchers respectively Mr. Bahroz Bakir Othman, Ms. Dlgash Saeed Saido, Mr. Jamal Majid Faraj and Mr.Hamza Mohammed Salih.
The first research paper entitled, “The influences of Social Classes in Kurdish History in Western Resources from the 19th century till the Mid-20th Century”.
The second paper delved into “Robbery, looting among Kurdish in the Narrative of the journeys and Memoirs of Residents of British East Indian company of (1900-1932)”.
The third research paper titled “The perspectives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Britain on the History of Part of Kurdistan in Ottoman Empire in the book of Armenia and Kurdistan”.
The fourth paper titled, “Kurds in the Perspective of Turkish Sociologists: Mehmet Ziya Gökalp as an example”.

The first researcher Dr. Farhad AbdulAziz Amin presented research titled the description of Shekh Raza in the Memorandum of Major Son and Cecil J. Edmonds.
The second researcher was Dr. Saman Mustafa Rashid, his research paper entitled famous Kurdish figures in the Book of “The Scholars of the last period of ottoman Era” .
The third researcher Prof. Dr. Ali Rahmaty’s research was on Kurdish Princess and Governors of Shadlo tribe of the Vallayat of Birjand /Khorasan in the Qajar dynasty in the Iranian Sources.
The fourth researcher was Dr. Sanman Salah Fatah presented a research paper on the Political and Military Role of Sheikh Mohammed Sadiq Nahri between the years 1890-1907. During the session.

On the evening of the second day of the conference, Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah and Mr. Azad Tofiq, the governor of Halabja city, commenced the workplan. The gathering included the esteemed Kurdish artist Mr. Mazhary Xalqi, the family of martyr Mullah Jamil Roj Bayani, members of the Golden Pen Experts Board, and numerous political, cultural figures, and writers. Initially, the attendees observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of the pure Kurdistan martyrs. Following that, Dr. Sarwar Abdullah provided a detailed overview of the workplan points. Subsequently, speeches were delivered by Mr. Azad Tofiq, Governor of Halabja, Mr. Haider Lashkari from the Board of Experts and Mr. Dawan Ma’roof, Director of Jamal Nabaz Cultural Organization. The prestigious Jamal Nabaz Golden Pen Award was then bestowed upon the esteemed Kurdish musical artist Mazhar Khalqi, with honors extended to researchers, Kurdsat Media Agency, Jamal Nabaz Cultural Organization, Balambo Music Group, and artist Mr. Hoshyar Hama Faraj.

Hawraman Cultural Center in collaboration with the Central Library of UoH and the General Directorate of Culture and Arts of Halabja, organized an international symposium titled “Sheikh Ali Hassamedin Naqshbandi as a Perfect Leader.” The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the President of the University of Halabja, Mr. Azad Tofiq, the Governor of Halabja city, members of the UoH University council, religious and political figures, as well as relatives of Sheikh Ali Hassamedin on the 19th of October 2023 at Mustafa Zalmi Hall.

 The symposium began with a moment of silence to honor the pure souls of Kurdistan martyrs. After that, the President of UoH extended a warm welcome to the participants on behalf of the university council, the General Directorate of Culture and Arts in Halabja, and the Hawraman Cultural Center.

Later, Mr. Ayub Kwekha Rostam, from the symposium organizing committee, delivered an opening speech. In addition, the family’s statement was read by Mr. Shazad Naqshbandi. 

It is worth to mention that the primary objective of the symposium, discussed in two panels, was to shed some light on the life, work, and character of Sheikh Ali Hassamedin:

In a significant effort to develop research and academic collaboration, the University of Halabja (UoH) Research Center and the Baxshin Hospital Research Center formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the 5th of October, 2023.

The MoU was signed during a meeting that brought together a delegation from the University of Halabja and key representatives from Baxshin Hospital Research Center.

The UoH delegation included Dr. Hersh Hama Amin Faqe, the Head of Research Center, Mr. Rasti Ayub Hama Saeed, the Head of International Academic Relations, and Mr. Bawar Muhammad Faraj, the Head of the University’s Ranking Office.

They were warmly received by Baxshin Research Center staff including Dr. Jaza Muhammad AbdulAziz, the Head of Research Center, Mr. Rebwar Hassan, the Hospital Manager and other center staff members.

The purpose of this meeting was to explore avenues of cooperation, particularly in the realm of research, publications, and data-sharing.

One of the pivotal aspects of this collaboration revolves around data exchange. Baxshin Hospital Research Center has agreed to provide the University of Halabja with access to valuable laboratory data. This data will serve as a foundational resource for various research projects, offering a wealth of raw data that can be harnessed for academic and scientific purposes.

This MoU underscores the commitment of both institutions to academic excellence, innovation, and the pursuit of knowledge. It opens doors to a mutually beneficial exchange of ideas, data, and research methodologies that can drive progress in research initiatives.

On July 31st, 2023, a delegation from the Iranian Consulate in Sulaimani paid a visit to the University of Halabja (UoH) with a mission to strengthen bilateral relations.

The delegation, led by Mr. Mahmood Mahmoodian, the Consul General, received a warm welcome from Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the UoH president, along with university counsel members and several academic staff.

During the meeting, Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah emphasized the significance of the existing academic and scientific connections between UoH and Iranian universities. These ties have been nurtured through various means, such as memoranda of understanding, joint workshops, conferences, symposia, and collaborative scholarly papers.

The Iranian consul general, in response, further emphasized that the relations extend beyond the realm of science and academia. Given the geographical proximity of the city to the border, cultural exchange has also played a vital role in strengthening the bonds between the two entities.

One notable proposal discussed during the meeting for the purpose of fostering collaborations was the provision of professors from Iran to join the UoH academic staff. This initiative aims to promote the expansion of Persian language and culture education within the university community.

Both sides expressed their enthusiasm for future cooperation in the fields of academia, science, and culture. The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to continuing and expanding the fruitful partnerships between the University of Halabja and the Iranian Consulate, paving the way for enhanced knowledge sharing and cultural enrichment.

On Wednesday, 2nd of August 3, 2023, a delegation from KSCIEN organization headed by Dr. Fahmi Hussein Kakamad, the Organization’s Director, paid a visit to the UoH where they were warmly welcomed by the University’s President, the deans and members from International Relations office and the University Ranking office.

Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the President of UoH, provided insights into the university’s history, geographical location, and its strong integration within the community. She also praised the dedication and hard work of the academic staff in advancing the university’s overall growth.

During the meeting, both parties emphasized the role of collaboration and joint work between universities and organization which resulted in signing a memorandum of understanding whose primary aim is to foster the development of scientific research.

Some specific points of collaboration outlined in the MoU include publication of original research in high-profile scientific journals, researcher encouragement and promotion, and combatting predatory journals and publications.

Other areas of collaborative work as indicated in the memorandum of understanding which spans over two years include organizing joint activities such as workshops, conferences, seminars, and conduction joint research and projects.

KSCIEN organization is a non-profit entity operating in Kurdistan with a global focus on enhancing scientific research, particularly in developing countries. Their mission includes conducting various scientific activities like workshops, courses, and conferences to support and educate promising individuals in underprivileged regions. A key focus of KSCIEN is to combat predatory publishing practices that have affected universities and academic institutions in developing nations.

The University of Halabja (UoH) has taken a significant step towards expanding its academic reach by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Murcia in Spain. This collaboration is part of UoH’s efforts to establish academic partnerships with renowned universities worldwide, with a particular focus on Europe.

UoH’s International Academic Relations Office (IRO) has actively pursued academic partnerships with universities worldwide. The MoU with the University of Murcia marks an important milestone in UoH’s journey towards becoming a prominent institution in the region. It provides valuable opportunities for UoH students and faculty members, fostering their growth and development.

Both universities are already partners in the APPRAIS Project, which is a capacity building project receiving funding from the European Union’s Erasmus+ program. The project’s objective is to improve the governance, strategic planning, and management of higher education institutions, with a specific emphasis on reforming the higher education system through the Bologna process implementation in the Kurdish universities of the region.

The MoU is signed by Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, University of Halabja President, and Jose Lujan Alcaraz, University of Murcia Rector and represented and exchanged by Prof. Dr. Dana Abdullah Tahir, UoH Vice-president for Scientific and Higher Education Affairs and Maria Jesus Periago University of Murcia Representative.

The recently signed MoU outlines various areas of potential collaboration between the two institutions. This includes jointly developing research projects, offering post-graduate and research study programs, and facilitating the exchange of professors, researchers, and students. Additionally, both universities can organize courses, seminars, share academic resources, and collaborate on Master’s and Doctoral degree projects.

This broad scope of collaboration opens up numerous opportunities for academic exchange and cooperation between UoH and the University of Murcia. It has the potential to significantly contribute to the advancement of knowledge and research in their respective fields.

UoH remains committed to furthering its partnerships with universities around the world. This collaboration presents an excellent opportunity for both institutions to enhance their academic offerings and expand their capabilities. It will enable UoH students and faculty members to exchange knowledge and expertise with their counterparts in Spain, creating a vibrant cross-cultural learning experience for all parties involved.

The University of Halabja and the President Jalal Talabani Foundation entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which was signed by the president of the UoH Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah and the president of President Jalal Talabani Foundation Dr. Mohammed Sabir at the UoH on May 23, 2023. The event was attended by vice-presidents, deans, the director of International Academic Relations and director of CDC at UoH, as well as the founder and head of Administration and Relations of President Jalal Talabani Foundation.

Following the signing of the MoU and in a press conference, Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah expressed the UoH pride in signing the MoU with President Jalal Talabani Foundation emphasizing that it was a historic day for the university. She further stated that the purpose of the MoU was to benefit students, administrative and academic staff in various fields including science and research.

After that, Dr. Mohammed Sabir delivered a speech highlighting the role of President Mam Jalal Talabani. He also referred to himself as a student of President Mam Jalal and expressed the aspiration to accomplish endeavors of incomparable significance. Dr. Sabir further discussed President Mam Jalal’s pivotal role and tremendous support in the establishment of universities. He elaborated on the foundation’s responsibilities particularly in the of higher education and the development of relationships with universities at both national and international levels.
It is worth to mention that this MoU is intended to establish and strengthen a collaboration between the two sides regarding the developmental collaborations, exchange knowledge, experience and filling gaps in different areas to provide excellent services and providing suitable environment for undergraduate, post graduate, youth development and community.

Halabja University participated in the First Academic and Scientific Conference of “Hawramanology”
The first Scientific and academic Conference of “Hawramanology” was held at Kurdistan University in the city of Sanandaj, which was organized jointly by the University of Kurdistan, University of Halabja and University of Sulaimani.
The conference lasted for 2days on 3rd -4th ,May,2023, in which the University of Halabja lecturers and researchers participated in with a number of researches which was conducted particularly on Hawraman Area,additionally the President of the University of Halabja ,Prof.Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdulla ,delivered a speech via online, “she welcomed the guests and hoped that the conference would be a continuation of the joint works between the two universities and other universities of Iran, and also made an initiative and showed the University of Halabja’s wiliness for hosting the second conference of Hawramanology next year , and thanked the organizers of the conference and emphasized the importance of this conference and described it as great initiative for bringing together the leading academic researchers and research scholars.’’

The conference was held in the framework of the joint scientific and academic cooperations between the Universities of Kurdistan , Halabja and Sulaimani, the aim of the conference was to introduce the Hawramn Area in terms of its Scientific, cultural,art and social aspects ,present 93 researches in 22 panels and also to bring together leading academic, researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results.

The event started with the ceremony of the conference, in which the University presidents gave speeches as well as the Governor of Sanandaj city and Head of Research center also present speeches.
The UoH president, Prof.Dr.Mahabad Kamil Abdulla presented a speech in which she welcomed the guests and hoped that the conference would be a continuation of the joint works between the two universities and other universities of Iran, Dr. Mahabad made an initiative and showed the University of Halabja’s willness to host the second conference of Hawramanology next year , and thanked the organizers of the conference and emphasized the importance of this conference and described it as great initiative for bringing together the leading academic researchers and research scholars and holding more joint works between the two universities.
At the same time a number of scientific articles were presented on the history, culture, tradition and arts of Hawraman Area,and two volume of books about Hawraman were introduced in the conference which were printed on the conferences budget.
Later, in three different halls and in the first day of the conference in 9 panels a numerous researches were presented and the researchers briefly discussed the content of their researches.
In the second day of the conference, the remaining research papers were presented in a number of panels and the contents were displayed to the attendees.
