Mr. Karwan Mahdi Hama Rawf, Mr. Sarkhel Hama Tahir Karim, Mr. Ayub Othman Abdulrahman, and Mr. Karzan Jaza Ghafoor from the Computer Department, College of Science, published a paper titled “Dataset for the Recognition of Kurdish Sound Dialects” in the journal “Data in Brief.” The journal has an impact factor of 1.2 and a site score of 6.2, placing it in the Q2 category, and it is affiliated with Elsevier publisher.

The Kurdish Language Department organized an event to celebrate Mother Language Day on February 21, 2024. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Dana Abdullah Tahir, Vice-President for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Mira, Dean of the College of Education of Shahrazoor, Dr. Shwana Noori, Dean of the College of Humanities, as well as several political and administrative figures, students, and lecturers. The event began with a minute of silence to honor Kurdish martyrs. Following this, Dr. Aryan Sdiq delivered a speech highlighting the significance of mother tongue. Additionally, the dean of the college congratulated everyone on Mother Language Day. The agenda included presentations by Dr. Tara Muhsein Qadir on the importance of mother tongue and teaching second languages, Dr. Nali Adham Gharib on artificial intelligence and language, and Arya Yasin on the violation of constitutional articles regarding language by governmental and non-governmental institutions.

Dr. Hersh Hama Amin Faqe, head of Research Center at UoH, and Mr. Masood Abubakr from Civil Engineering department at UoH, co-authored a research paper entitled, “Evaluation of mechanical properties and shear-bond strength of mortar containing natural extract admixture” with an impact factor 7.4.

The UoH lecturers Dr. Rabar Hama Ameen from Civil Engineering Department, Mr. Mariwan Ahmed Hama Saeed from College of Basic Education, and Mr. Faraedoon Wali from Physics Department conducted a research paper entitled, “Innovative Machine Learning Approaches to Predict the Compressive Strength of Recycled Plastic Aggregate Self-Compacting Concrete Incorporating Different Waste Ashes” in the international journal Multiscale and Multidisciplinary Modeling, Experiments and Design with an impact factor 2.2.

A ceremony honoring influential researchers from KRG public universities was organized in which several university presidents attended.

During the event, Dr. Ameer Ahmed Chally presented an evaluation of Kurdistan universities in Scopus. Notably, the University of Halabja (UoH) secured the sixth position on regional level in papers published on scopus.

The detailed rankings included the University’s impressive research rate per staff member (1.73), its proportion of staff in Scopus (10th position with 55%) and its growth in the number of researchers and research papers (13th position).

UoH also held the 9th spot for the oldest research in Scopus dating back to 2012. Mr. Pishraw Ahmad, Head of Quality Assurance and member of the International Rankings Office played a crucial role in creating UoH’s Scopus profile in 2023 and contributed to the university’s development through International Rankings Office projects, worth mentioning.

Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, president of UoH, and Mr. Ziring Sadoon Mohammed, representative from Fastlink company, signed a memorandum of Understanding on the 17th of January 2024. This collaborative effort, supported by the Halabja Environmental Office, aims to enhance the greenery in front of the Civil Engineering Department.

A lecturer at the University of Halabja, Mr. Aram Mohammed Ameen Qadir, collaborated with his student, Balen Salah Mohammed, on a research paper titled “Eco-Champions: A Deep Dive into Kurdistan Companies’ Environmental Stewardship.” The paper was published in the international workshop “ISAR Journal of Arts, Humanities, and Social.” Click [here] to read the research paper.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in collaboration with Imperial English UK, organized a two-day training course for directors and lecturers of Kurdistan Universities Language Centers.

During the training, Dr. Zhala Saeed Khatat, the general director of the Research and Development Office, along with the Directors and lecturers of universities’ language centers discussed training methodologies for English language lecturers across all Kurdistan universities.

In addition, Dr. Zhala expressed gratitude during the closing ceremony and certificate distribution, thanking Imperial English UK for their role in shaping the format and content of upcoming courses. Additionally, Dr. Nyan Kamil Ghafoor, Mr. Atta Mostafa Hamamorad and Mr. Taha Jalal Ahmed from University of Halabja took part in the training course, worth mentioning.
