On the 28th of April 20224, University of Halabja (UoH) hosted an event to conclude the training course entitled “Healthy Family: Strong Community “which taught by SEED foundation which works on Social, Educational, Economic Development. The event was attended by Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, UoH president, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Rasheed Meera, Dean of College of Basic Education of Shahrzoor, Dr.Ako Ibrahim Faqe, Dean of College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, Dr.Hersh Hama Amin Faqe, Director of Research Center, Assist.Prof.Dr. Hasan Hashim, Head of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, a number of Lecturers and students, Mr. Roman Hama, Head of SEED foundation programs, and SEED foundation lecturer’s team.
At the beginning, Prof. Mahabad expressed UoH gratitude towards SEED foundation for offering these valuable trainings to eduacate UoH students. She further talked about the importance of the training to the young students. Besides she mentioned the triangle of university, education and society that plays a crucial role in building up the personality of youths and students which results in having healthy individuals in the society.
Later, Mr. Roman discussed the foundations’ programs like this intensive trainings which raises the awareness of young students as a result improving their way of behavior with people , society and technology in healthier way. As a result, one can lessen or prevent domestic violence and violence in the society in general.
In the second part of the event, the second year student Ms. Sara Hamid, and the first year student Mr. Rawand, discussed their experiences during the training which played an important and considerable role on their attitude and understanding not only towards healthy relationships and treatment with their surroundings ,but also towards technology.
Then, Dr. Ako representing the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences expressed gratitude from the deanery to the manager, the team of lecturers and SEED foundation for providing such a scientific and modern training for the period of two months for the students of College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences.
At the end, the participant students received the certificates of participation and awards by SEED foundation.
EED Foundation is a women-led, local non-governmental organization in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), committed to protecting, empowering, and supporting the recovery and reintegration of survivors of violence and others at risk. Guided by a survivor-centered, trauma-informed approach, SEED delivers holistic services to clients, including case management, mental health, psychosocial support, legal services, cash assistance, and shelter; educates and trains KRI frontline service providers; and undertakes policy and advocacy initiatives to strengthen laws, policies, and practices and to promote social norms and behaviors affirming human rights and dignity in the KRI.

On April 28, 2024, a workshop titled “Modern Applications and Current Status of Green Nanotechnology” took place in the General Library at the presidency of UoH, attended by Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, President of UoH, the Vice-President for Scientific Affairs, the Dean of the College of Science, heads of several departments, and numerous students and lecturers. Initially, Prof. Aziz Abdullah Barzanji delivered the first seminar, emphasizing the significance of nanotechnology. Following that, Prof. Samir Mustafa Hamad, the head of the Research Center at the University of Soran, presented on the center’s activities, highlighting the latest research and scientific affairs. To conclude the workshop, the UoH president awarded both seminar presenters for their contributions.

On April 24, 2024, a workshop was conducted on Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool for the learning process and its associated challenges at the college of Basic Education. The workshop was moderated by Mr. Rezhan Hassan, head of the English Department. The workshop also featured the speaker Mr. Rasti Ayub Hama Saeed, Head of International Relations at UoH, along with MA students Mr. Miran Abdulrahman Abdullah and Mr. Shakar Salah Rahim.

Initially, Mr. Shakar highlighted the evolving nature of AI, emphasizing its daily progress and increasing benefits to society. Subsequently, Mr. Rasti provided a detailed exploration of AI’s role in education, underscoring its user-friendly nature and various advantageous characteristics compared to other online resources. Lastly, Mr. Miran delved into the nuanced discussion of AI’s pros and cons, noting its subjectivity and adeptness in addressing inquiries.

Assist. Prof. Hunar Farid Hama Ali, head of the Civil Engineering Department, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Rabar Hama Ameen Faraj published a paper titled “Predicting the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content from soil index properties using efficient soft computing techniques” in the journal of “Neural Computing & Applications” with an impact factor of (6).

Mr. Hiwa Abdulla Marouf, head of the Physics Department, College of Sciences, published a paper titled ” CFD modeling of a tabular three-pass solar air heater with phase change material: Investigating heat transfer enhancement and energy efficiency ” in the journal ” Journal of Energy Storage” The journal has an impact factor of IF=9.4.

Mr. Yousif Hussein and Mr. Rebaz Obeid from the Computer Department, College of Sciences, published a paper titled ” Quantum Chemical Calculation for Synthesis Some Thiazolidin-4-one Derivatives ” in the journal ” Molecular Structure” The journal has an impact factor of IF=3.8, placing it in the Direct Science.

The latest edition of the University of Halabja (UoH) Journal is now available which is issue 25 Version 1, Volume 9, 2024 which includes 25 research papers in Kurdish, English, Arabic, and Persian covering diverse fields like language, literature, politics, finance, media, history, geography, and psychology. It is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the UoH journal is endorsed by multiple scientific institutions holding its DOI and ISSN.

During the commemoration of the 36th anniversary of the Halabja Chemical Attack, Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced the opening of the College of Medicine at the University of Halabja. He presented the order to Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the UoH president, and allocated two hundred million IQD for the college’s infrastructure. Dr. Aram expressed condolences for the tragic loss and emphasized the importance of the college in serving Kurdistan, particularly Halabja. He asked for support from all relevant parties to ensure the university’s excellence.

On March 16, 2024, the University of Halabja (UoH) commemorated 36th anniversary of the Halabja brutal chemical attack. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, President of UoH, Mr. Azad Tofiq, Governor of Halabja, along with various administrative and political figures, relatives of the martyrs, and UoH faculty members.

The ceremony commenced with a moment of silence, where all attendees paid tribute to the souls of the Kurdistan and Halabja chemical attack victims. Dr. Aram Mohammed delivered a heartfelt speech, extending condolences for the tragic loss suffered by the children, women, and innocent residents of Halabja.

Following this, Prof. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah conveyed her condolences on behalf of the University. The event featured cultural performances, including a drum performance titled “Fingers of the City” by the Nawa group, and an anthem titled “My City” performed by artist Mr. Najm Mohammed Abdullah.

A panel discussion moderated by Dr. Bafraw Rawf Hama Yosif ensued, focusing on the theme “Halabja: From Genocide to Reconstruction and Compensation.” The panelists included:

1. Mr. Mohammad Ali Qadri, Head of the Social Welfare Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who presented on the situation and fate of missing children from Halabja in Iran.

2. Dr. Ibar Rohi, who delivered a presentation on the evaluation of the Iranian Court’s decision regarding the case of Frans Cornelis Adrianus van Anraat, a war criminal who supplied raw materials for chemical weapons to Iraq during Saddam Hussein’s regime.

3. Dr. Awara Mohammed Hussein, Dean of the College of Law, who presented on the principles and methods of compensating victims of the Halabja genocide.

Students from UoH, supervised by Mr. Goran Omar from the English Department, teamed up with students from Florida University in the US for an online meeting organized by the IREX organization.

This meeting was part of a three-week program called Global Solutions Conversations. The program aims to let students from both universities talk about global issues affecting their communities and improve their skills in talking with people from different cultures. Both sets of students join in these discussions eagerly, sharing their different views and backgrounds on cultures and current events.

It’s important to know that Global Solutions is a program that helps people in the U.S., Iraq, and Jordan improve their job skills through online projects like the Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge and Global Solutions Conversations.
