About TIGRIS

The Erasmus+ TIGRIS Project

The Erasmus+ TIGRIS Project, co-funded by the EU’s “Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education” program, seeks to promote modernization, accessibility, and internationalization in Partner Countries, with a focus on Kurdistan. Running from 2017 to 2020 and led by Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany, the collaborative effort involves 5 European and 10 Kurdish partners, including the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The project’s objectives center on improving higher education in Kurdistan, emphasizing quality enhancement, innovative program development, and overall education system modernization. The initiative aims to foster international collaboration by facilitating joint degrees, recognizing study abroad experiences, and implementing the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The strategic development of policies for internationalization, collaborative research, and academic mobility will strengthen cooperation between Kurdish and European higher education institutions.

Anticipated impacts, both short-term and long-term, include increased interest in internationalization, the establishment of frameworks for recognizing studies abroad, and the creation of joint ventures. The project also strives to enhance lifelong learning for senior managers, integrate internationalization strategies within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), and elevate the quality of education in Kurdistan. Furthermore, the collaboration is expected to raise awareness of Kurdistan’s internationalization within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and globally.
