A University of Halabja Lecturer Co-authored Two Papers in International Journals with Students Mr. Sarkar Ahmed Saeed who is a University of Halabja lecturer affiliated with the College of Law and Administration/ Department of International Trade, has co-authored two papers in international journals with students.

The first paper titled, “Knowledge Management Plays a Crucial Role in Attaining a Competitive Advantage,” involves collaboration with three fourth-grade evening class students named Rebaz Karim Mahmood, Nawrol Ezadeen Ahmad, and Irshad Mahmood Aziz. It is published in the International Journal “Al-Idarah: Jurnal Kependidikan Islam.”

The second paper focuses on the graduation project of two International Trade Department students Halwest Jabbar and Rawezh Hasib titled “The Effect of Human Resource Management and Knowledge Sharing on Employee Performance,” it is published in the International Journal “Jurnal Manajemen Stratejik dan Simulasi Bisnis (JMASSBI).”

The latest edition of the University of Halabja (UoH) Journal is now available which is issue 24 Version 4, Volume 8, 2023 which includes 15 research papers in Kurdish, English, and Arabic, covering diverse fields like language, literature, politics, media, history, geography, psychology, and computer science. It is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the UoH journal is endorsed by multiple scientific institutions holding its DOI and ISSN.

On December 19, 2023, the University of Halabja (UoH) and Raden Intan Lampung State Islamic University held a virtual meeting resulting in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). UoH was represented by Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the university president, Mr. Rasti Ayub Hama Saeed, head of International Academic Relations, and Mr. Bawar Muhammed Faraj, head of the International Ranking Office. The university president Dr. Wan Jamaluddin and various deans and heads represented Raden Intan Lampung State Islamic University.
The session included speeches by both presidents, providing insights into the history, structure, and development of their respective institutions. The MoU, comprising eight articles, aims to strengthen relations, fostering academic and cultural exchange in education, research, and other activities.

The University of Halabja marked a significant moment on November 14, 2023, as it proudly held the graduation ceremony for the eighth and ninth rounds of students for the academic years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. A total of 1364 students were honored with well-deserved certificates.
The event was graced by distinguished guests including Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Mr. Hama Hama Saeed, Minister of Culture and Youth. Joining them were presidents from various KRG universities, administrative and political figures, as well as the students and their families.
The ceremony unfolded with the university council members taking the stage, guiding the students into the hall to the tunes of the national anthems of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The atmosphere was set with the recitation of Quranic verses followed by a minute of silence in remembrance of Kurdistan’s martyrs.
Dr. Ako Ibrahim Faqe, dean of the college of Physical Education and Sport Sciences and head of the Graduation Ceremony Committee, delivered a speech, paving the way for the President of UoH, Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah. Dr. Mahabad extended a warm welcome to the guests, congratulated the students and highlighted the university’s impressive developmental journey.
Subsequently, Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir expressed his joy in Halabja, recognizing it as a symbol of national identity. He commended the collaborative efforts of students’ families and teachers, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that financial constraints would not hinder students’ education. Dr. Qadir assured continued support and pledged to prioritize UoH needs.
The ceremony continued with students taking the oath, followed by the awarding of certificates to the 1364 graduates. Outstanding achievements were duly acknowledged with awards presented to the top-performing students across various departments and colleges at UoH.

Mr. Bawar Muhammed Faraj, a UoH lecturer at College of Sciences, Computer Department, as a one of the keynote speakers participated in an international conference named, “RADEN INTAN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTAL, SCIENCE, AND MATHEMATICS EDUCATION (RIIC-ESME)” at the faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Intan Lampung, Indonesia on the 4th-6th of December 2023. During the conference, Mr. Bawar, who also managed a session, discussed his two latest papers on numerical analysis and presenting the recent methods on this field.

Dr. Zana Baqi, a researcher at the Research Center of UoH, has recently contributed to two impactful international journals. The first paper, featured in the African Journal of Urology (impact factor 0.5), explores the detection of a rare penile tumor in a nine-year-old boy. The second paper, published in the Annals of Medicine & Surgery (impact factor 1.7), delves into the detection and removal of a sizable tumor in children.

On the 29th of November 2023, Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, President of UoH, and Dr. Ako Ibrahim Faqe, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, extended a warm welcome to the Razi University delegation which included Dr. Aadi, the Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. During the meeting, both universities engaged in discussions on scientific matters, emphasizing student and teacher exchange, as well as collaborative efforts such as conferences, workshops, seminars, and joint courses. The meeting concluded with President UoH presenting the Razi University delegation with an award from the University of Halabja.

A delegation from University of Halabja have participated in Circular Field Visit at two of the EU university partners in the framework of TeachersMOD project: the University Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and University of Granada between 13-17/11/2023. The field visits were organized as part of the Workpackage 4 of TeachersMOD project and focused on various aspects of higher education, including Active Teaching and Learning Methodologies, Soft Skills and Special Needs Management, Teaching in/through a foreign language at College of Basic Education.

The UoH delegation comprises of 4 University lecturers from College of Basic Education namely, Dr. Hoshman Ata Mahmod, Dr. Niaz Mohammed Fatah, Dr. Lawko Amir Aziz and Ms. Renas Wali Mustafa,they were joined by delegations from 4 other Kurdish universities. The field visits were organized by Pavia University and aimed to provide participants with an in-depth look at the current state of Curriculum at College of Basic Education in Portugal and Spain.

The first part of the visit took place in Vila Real at University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, where the participants had the opportunity to engage in discussions with representatives from University of Alto Douro and learn about their experiences in Active Teaching and Learning Methodologies: The Case of Project- Based Learning Methodology and the Flipped Classroom, Implementing EMI programmes and soft skills in higher education.
The Kurdish partners had also the opportunity to visit typical school where a special Hall for modern practical teaching methodology was prepared and named as “class of twenty- first century” which is a new experience at the beginning stage. KRI primary schools can also get benefit from this experience.
During the second part of the visit in Granada, which was a field Visit and Training Workshop participants learned about Soft Skills and Special Needs Management in Higher Education, Teaching Methods in Higher Education through Arts;Design and Implementation of institutional collaboration proposal for teachers’ professional. The participants had comprehensive discussions to make a comparison between higher Education programs in the KRI institutions and host institutions where they were able to establish links for future scientific cooperation and exchange of ideas to further advance the quality of teaching methodologies and competence of the staff of College of Basic Education at KRI HEIs in the future.

Event In the presence of the university president Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the Halabja governor Mr. Azad Tofiq, university council members, lecturers and students, the University of Halabja (UoH) hosted the “Peace for Unity and Understanding” event on November 26th, 2023. The activities, organized by UoH President and sponsored by the International Organization for Migration and Kurdsat Media Agency, featured various local and international workshops and artistic activities.
Commencing with a moment of silence for the Kurdistan martyrs, Mr. Mariwan Wahbi, head of the Disabled Organization of Kurdistan, delivered a speech. Subsequently, Dr. Mahabad welcomed the guests and expressed appreciation for the event preparation committee’s efforts. Afterwards, Mr. Azad Tofiq also spoke on the event and warmly welcomed the guests, followed by a presentation on “Peace and Co-existence in Halabja.” The “Symphony of Peace” by Mawlawi Music Group and a feature on Halabja’s symbol of peace, “Mr. Halo Nader” Kakay, were presented. A session titled “Media as a Tool for Peace Development” included papers by Dr. Hataw Hama Saleh on “Cultural Foundation of Coexistence in Media”, Mr. Farooq Jamil on “Tolerance in the Era of Digital Media Challenges and Opportunities – Message of Peace and Coexistence” and Dr. Ismail Haji Zalmi on “The Role of Social Networks in Spread the Message of Peace and Coexistence” Concluding the first day, a feature highlighted a disabled teenager from Halabja who secured the top spot in the Iraqi program “Magic Math.”

In the presence of the UoH president Prof. Dr. Mahabad Kamil Abdullah, the University of Halabja hosted an event commemorating Halabja Day featuring distinguished guests such as Mr. Hama Hama Saeed, the Minister of Culture and Youth of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Mr. Azad Tofiq, Governor of Halabja city, Mr. Leila Omar, Mayor of Sulaimani, among others. The event, titled “Halabja: A History of Freedom and a Lifetime of Literature,” took place on November 24, 2023, at the UoH presidency. Initially, the gathering began with a solemn minute of silence in remembrance of the Kurdistan martyrs. Later, Mr. Azad Tofiq then delivered a welcoming speech, providing insights into the history of Halabja. Afterwards, the program continued with the display of documentary photos depicting Halabja, followed by a captivating music and song concert performed by the Halabja Music Group and dance presentations. The audience was presented with several books highlighting the literary, artistic and religious history of Halabja province. In a concluding address, the Governor of Halabja expressed gratitude for the enduring significance of Halabja’s tribes and families in both the present and the past. During an afternoon session, a panel discussion titled “Halabja between Concept and History” was led by Mr. Azad Tofiq, Governor of Halabja. Dr. Saman Mustafa Rashid explored “The Position of Gul Anbar in the Archives of the Ottoman Empire,” while Dr. Saman Salah delved into “Halabja as an Important Political and Religious Center in Kurdish History.” The panel concluded with engaging comments and discussions involving both the audience and panelists.
